Report of the Naviga World Event of Section C in Belgium

The Naviga World Event of Section C this year was organised by the Royal Belgian Model Yacht Federation in the "Museum of Beautiful Arts" in Mons. It showed, that this place was ideal for such an event, laid in the centre of the city. During the event the museum was visited by many spectators, attracted by good public relations of specially different TV stations, reporting about the event.
The opening ceremony took place at the wonderful main place of the city in front of the old town hall, just about 50 Meters away from the museum. It was a impressive opening Ceremony with officials of the town and marine present. The only sad point was the time, 10 AM on Sunday morning, so nearly no onlookers were present.

The work of the judges in the museum was well organised, first Mr. Fragniere wanted 3 Teams of judges, but the organiser and the judges thought, that the work could be done by two teams and this proofed right. A problem arouse, when 2 members of one team of judges said, that they could not judge the models of the class C7 and the problem was solved, as 2 other judges worked instead of them.
The rooms for the display of the models were with good natural light and there was enough space for the models, the judges and spectators. After 5 days of intensive work of the 2 teams of judges all models were judged and the results published without greater problems. The banquet was in the rooms of a school not in service during the holidays. During the banquet prices were given to the judges and some other people responsible for the good work to run the event.

The section meeting was held on 2 days at 2 different places in the Town Hall due to problems with the personal of the town Hall, on the first day not opening the meeting room in time and then closing at 19 PM, which gave not enough time to finish. So it was decided to finish the meeting on next day and the team leaders agreed. At the second day there were no problems with the localities and the voting could take place. Two persons were claimed for section leaders, Mr. Fragniere, the acting section leader and Mr. Bellanger. 14 Team leaders were present and after 2 rounds the votes were 7 : 7. Then a short break was made and the 2 candidates got the chance to present their program and idears. After this the votes remained 7 : 7 and the leader of the voting committee decided to run 1 more round and after this a decision by lot would be necessary. But in the last round 1 vote was decided by the committee to be not valid and so the voting was 7 votes for Mr. Fragniere and 6 votes for Mr. Bellanger. Because of this Mr. Fragniere remained section leader of section C.

The price giving for all classes and the closing ceremony was on Sunday afternoon in the ballroom of the city hall with the major of Mons present. After a short thank to all responsible for the well organised World Event the medals were presented to the winners.

I must specially thank Mr. Noel de Cuyper, Mr. Luc Gerard and Mr. Fragniere for their work and efforts to make the event a success.

Resume: A well organised NAVIGA World Event with only minor problems at an ideal place with good support from the officials of the hosting town.
